1. Money

The official currency unit of Vietnam is Dong. US dollars and Euros are also accepted at many major stores and restaurants. Many other currencies can be easily exchanged in the bank and even at the front desk of the Ngoc Lan hotel

Make sure that the Vietnamese notes you receive are not torn, as the shops and restaurants will not accept them. The largest face value today is 500,000 VND (equivalent to 26 USD). Be careful because the 20,000 note looks a little different from the 500,000 note, but the value is huge. You should keep all 500,000 VND notes separate from your other VND bills to avoid confusion.

2. Electricity

Electricity is 220 volts and 50Hz. The plug is usually two square pins or two round pins. Three-pin plugs can be found in certain places.

3. Shopping

You should bargain when shopping at local markets. For example, if the shop owner says 100 dollars, you should ask for 40 dollars, and then work to reach an agreement from there. If the negotiations don't work out, start walking away and in most cases the shop owner will call you back and offer their best rate.

4. Traffic

Traffic in Hanoi is awesome but also looks intimidating. There is plenty of special transportation available during peak hours (7am to 9am and 4:30 pm to 18:30 pm). Try to stay away from the roads during that time period, or be aware that it will take longer to travel during those times. When crossing the street, do not let the number of motorbikes overwhelm, go slowly and carefully.
